Carpet Cleaning TW7 Health and Safety Policy
This Health and Safety Policy sets out the commitment of Carpet Cleaning TW7 to protect the health, safety and welfare of our employees, customers, contractors and members of the public who may be affected by our carpet, rug and upholstery cleaning activities.
We recognise our responsibilities under relevant health and safety legislation and good industry practice. Our objective is to prevent accidents, injuries, ill health and damage to property by managing risks associated with professional cleaning work in homes, offices and commercial premises.
Management Responsibility and Commitment
Senior management is responsible for ensuring that adequate resources, training, equipment and supervision are provided so work can be carried out safely. Health and safety considerations are given equal priority to quality and customer service in all planning and operational decisions.
Managers and supervisors are required to implement this policy, monitor performance, investigate incidents and promote a positive safety culture throughout Carpet Cleaning TW7 and across our service area.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees of Carpet Cleaning TW7 have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Staff must:
Follow all safety procedures, method statements and risk assessments provided for cleaning tasks. Use equipment, tools and substances only as instructed and for their intended purpose. Wear the required personal protective equipment at all times where specified. Report hazards, near misses, defects and accidents without delay to their supervisor. Refrain from horseplay, unsafe behaviour or working under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Before undertaking carpet cleaning work, Carpet Cleaning TW7 carries out risk assessments appropriate to the premises and tasks involved. These assessments identify potential hazards such as slips, trips, electrical risks, chemical exposure, manual handling and confined spaces.
Control measures and safe systems of work are implemented based on these assessments. Where necessary, site specific instructions are issued to ensure that risks are reduced to as low as reasonably practicable while delivering effective carpet cleaning services.
Chemical Safety and COSHH
Cleaning detergents, stain removers and other solutions used by Carpet Cleaning TW7 are selected and managed in line with applicable chemical safety requirements. We only use products that are suitable for professional carpet cleaning and safe when used correctly.
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health assessments are undertaken for relevant products. Staff receive training on dilution, application, storage and disposal, as well as on the use of appropriate personal protective equipment such as gloves and eye protection. Safety data sheets are made available to staff and are followed at all times.
Equipment, Electrical Safety and Maintenance
All carpet cleaning machines, vacuums, extraction units and accessories used by Carpet Cleaning TW7 are maintained in a safe condition. Regular checks are carried out and any defective equipment is removed from service until repaired or replaced.
Electrical equipment is used in accordance with manufacturer instructions. Cables are routed carefully to avoid trip hazards and water contact. Staff are trained to visually inspect plugs, leads and casings before use and to report any damage immediately.
Manual Handling and Ergonomics
Carpet cleaning tasks often involve lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of machines, hoses and containers. To reduce the risk of strains and injuries, Carpet Cleaning TW7 provides manual handling training and promotes safe techniques.
Where possible, equipment with wheels or transport aids is used to minimise lifting. Loads are kept to a reasonable weight, and staff are encouraged to ask for assistance with heavy or awkward items. Work is planned to avoid unnecessary handling and to protect both workers and customers property.
Slips, Trips, Falls and Site Safety
We recognise that wet floors, hoses, tools and power cables can pose slip and trip risks during carpet cleaning. Our teams take care to keep work areas tidy and to minimise obstruction in walkways.
Where carpets or floors remain damp after cleaning, appropriate warning is given to occupants, and where practical, warning signs are used. Staff are instructed to identify and control other site specific hazards such as uneven flooring, loose carpets, stairs and poor lighting.
Customer, Occupant and Public Safety
Carpet Cleaning TW7 plans work to minimise disruption and risk to customers, building occupants and visitors. We ensure that children, pets and vulnerable persons are kept away from work areas, chemicals and equipment.
We take care to protect furnishings, electrical items and personal belongings, and to ventilate areas appropriately when using cleaning products. Where noise or temporary access restrictions are expected, we communicate this clearly before and during the work.
Training, Information and Supervision
All employees receive induction training on our Health and Safety Policy, safe working procedures and the correct use of equipment and products. Ongoing training is provided to maintain skills and awareness, including refresher sessions when methods or equipment change.
Supervisors monitor working practices on site to ensure procedures are followed correctly and to provide guidance where needed. Additional support is given to new or less experienced staff until they are fully competent.
Emergency Procedures and First Aid
Carpet Cleaning TW7 maintains arrangements for responding to accidents, spills and emergencies. Staff are instructed in what to do in the event of fire, electrical incidents, chemical splashes, injuries or sudden illness.
Where appropriate, first aid provision is made available and staff know how to obtain medical assistance if required. All incidents and near misses are recorded, investigated and reviewed to help prevent recurrence.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
We regularly monitor our health and safety performance through inspections, incident reports, staff feedback and customer comments. This policy and the associated procedures are reviewed periodically and updated where necessary to reflect changes in legislation, best practice, equipment or the nature of our work.
Carpet Cleaning TW7 is committed to continually improving our health and safety standards so that all carpet cleaning services delivered in our area are carried out responsibly, safely and with respect for people and property.
